Ushguli - our village
Ushguli can be translated as "fearless heart". It refers to the history of our ancestors, who always kept their independence from any royals or dukes. The inhabitants of Ushguli are also proud of their icons, which are famous and valuable. You may see them in the icon museum in the middle village Tshajashi. Just across from our B&B is the ethnographic museum, where you can see how our forefathers lived. There are precious wood carvings at display and you may have a seat in the chair of the Machvshi, the head of the elders, who in medieval times was in charge for the village. And don't miss to visit Lamaria, the biggest of our seven chapels/churches - which is situated on top our valley.
